Also known as acne, pimples appear when your skin’s oil glands are overactive, leading to inflamed pores. Some types of skin bacteria can make the pimples worse and they can appear anywhere on the skin but are most common on the face, chest, and back. Since they are triggered by androgen hormones and, in many cases can be genetic, there is no one-size-fits-all way to prevent or cure them, and sometimes they can be almost impossible to get rid of.
However, that doesn’t mean that there’s nothing that you can do. These top tips will help you to reduce the appearance of pimples and stay in control of them.
Tip #1. Wash Your Face Correctly
To help prevent pimples appearing on your face, it’s important to ensure that your face is adequately cleaned of any excess dirt, oil, and sweat on a daily basis. However, bear in mind that it’s important not to overdo it since washing your face more than twice daily can have the opposite effect and strip the skin of its natural oils, making the acne worse. Make sure to use gentle, alcohol-free cleansers and avoid anything with excess fragrances that could irritate your skin further.
Tip #2. Stay Moisturized
Skin that is dry and flaky is often more prone to pimples, so if you’re suffering from a case of skin dehydration, this could well be the reason why you’re experiencing more frequent and severe breakouts. A good moisturizer will help ensure that your skin stays adequately hydrated. However, it’s vital to choose one that is gentle on the skin and does not contain any synthetic fragrances or oils that could irritate your skin and make the pimples worse.
Tip #3. Use Over the Counter Treatments
There are several over the counter treatments available for acne that you may wish to try to help reduce the appearance of your pimples and the severity of your breakouts. If you’re unsure as to which one will likely be the most effective for you, then it’s a good idea to speak with a doctor or dermatologist who will be able to help you make the best choice. Tip #4. Limit Makeup Use
Whilst it can be tempting to use makeup to cover up your pimples, using too many cosmetic products can make them worse by irritating your skin and clogging your pores. If you can’t go without wearing makeup, for example, if you have an important event coming up for which you want to look your best, then be sure to avoid any heavy, greasy foundations and stick to cosmetic products that are fragrance-free and noncomedogenic. It’s also crucial to apply your makeup with clean brushes and sponges since touching your face with your hands will transfer bacteria to your skin and make your pimples worse.
